Fishing For the Cure Ice Fishing Tournament Breaks Records

February 25, 2020

Alexandria Industries’ Fishing For the Cure Ice Fishing Tournament Raised a Record $75,000 to Fight Cancer

ALEXANDRIA, Minn., Feb. 25, 2020 – Through the efforts of Alexandria Industries employees and countless volunteers, raffle ticket buyers, sponsors, donors and event participants, together we raised a cool $75,000 at the 14th annual Alexandria Industries’ Fishing For the Cure Ice Fishing Challenge. The money goes to helping potentially hundreds of cancer patients who are too sick to work, to pay for food, utility bills or temporary housing near a treatment center.

A team of 80 volunteers provided 1,436 participants, including 180 children (record-breaking attendance), a family friendly, fun-filled day of fishing, all for a great cause. More than 250 fish weighed-in. The top 50 large fish (walleye/northern) by weight, and the top 50 small fish (crappie, perch, sunfish), received prizes ranging in value from $25 to $1,000.

The tournament is also intended to teach kids to have fun fishing.

“We cannot possibly thank our amazing volunteers and the incredible generosity of more than 100 sponsors, whose support allows us to host our ice fishing tournament to raise such huge sums of money,” said Lynette Kluver, director of organizational development. “We are forever grateful for every contribution made by many people to help those who are fighting cancer and to find a cure.”

Team of Excellence

Along with its annual Fishing For the Cure Ice Fishing Challenge held every year on the third weekend in February, Alexandria Industries’ employees host many fundraising events for Relay For Life, including lunch fundraisers, bingo night, and other efforts. Employees reach out to their communities, families and friends, sharing the passion they have and the urgent need we have to find a cure for cancer. Last year, they raised slightly more than $80,000 for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. The ACS named Alexandria Industries as the Top Fundraising Team in Minnesota, the number two team in the region (13 states) and number 33 in the nation.

Founded by Dr. Gordy Klatt in Washington in 1985, the Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer. Uniting communities across the globe, Relay For Life celebrates cancer survivors, those who continue their cancer fight, and those we have lost.
